How to reach Shirdi
Shirdi, probably one of the most revered pilgrimage centres in the country, is visited by lakhs of devotees and tourists from not only India but abroad too. Home of the renowned saint Sri Sai Baba, this place has a different aura altogether. Owing to its huge religious significance, how to reach Shirdi is not a problem as the place is well linked with rest of the world with good network of trains, buses and flights. The destination has its own railway station called Sainagar Shirdi, which connects it with places like Chennai, Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, Secunderabad and Mysore, among others. Those planning to travel by air can get their tickets book till Mumbai, Pune or Aurangabad airport. These cities have excellent connectivity with rest part of the country. People travelling from places like Mumbai, Pune, Kopargaon and Nashik can take Maharashtra State Transport buses to reach Shirdi. Private Volvo buses are also available from these cities.
By air:
The nearest airports to Shirdi are located at Mumbai and Pune. The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai is one of the busiest airports in the country. The destination has regular flights operating from major Indian cities such as Aurangabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Allahabad, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur and Kolkata, just to list a few. From here, Shirdi is just around 5 hours’ smooth drive. A number taxis and cabs are available outside the airport for Shirdi.
The second one is in Pune, the Lohegaon Airport, which is about 195 km away from Shirdi city centre. It takes somewhere around 4 hours to reach Shirdi from Pune. Air India, GoAir, SpiceJet, AirAsia India and Jet Airways operate regular flights for Bangalore, Jaipur, Delhi, Goa, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Nagpur from here. Travellers can avail taxi and local bus services from outside the airport.
By road:
From places like Mumbai (242 km), Pune (187 km), Nashik (90 km) and Aurangabad (109 km), Shirdi is an easy drive. It does not take more than 5 hours to reach Shirdi from any of these cities. One can choose to drive or book their tickets for Shirdi in one of the Maharashtra State Transport buses. These buses have regular services from major cities like Nashik, Mumbai, Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Pune and Kopargaon. Those wishing to spend a little extra can book tickets in private air-conditioned buses.
By train:
Sainagar Shirdi is the railway station serving this pilgrimage centre. The railway station is well linked with various major cities such as Mumbai, Nagpur, Lucknow, Thane, Pune, Chennai, Visakhapatnam and Secunderabad, among others via good network of trains. The famous Shirdi Sai Temple is only 10 km from the railway station and a number of taxis and cabs are available to take you to your destination.
